Don’t Let Rips Bench You: Essential Hand Care for Ninjas

In Ninja, your hands are your most valuable equipment. From laches and rock holds to endless rope climbs and laches, your hands takesconstant abuse. If you overlook hand care, you risk painful rips, cracked skin, and forced time off the obstacles.

The good news? Keeping your hands healthy isn't complicated. It comes down to three things:

-- smart chalk use, physical protection, andrecovery.

1. Chalk: Use it Wisely - Chalk is essential forabsorbing sweat and improving grip, but too much of it can actually ruin yourhands. Excessive chalk dries out your skin, leading to cracks and tears.

  • The Golden Rule: Use just enough to stay secure on the bar.
  • For Rec Ninjas: We do not use chalk at the recreational level. Training with bare hands builds essential grip strength before progressing to advanced skills

2. Armor Up: Rip Guards & Tape - When you aretraining hard, athletic tape and rip guards are your best defense. They reinforce areas prone to tearing and protect vulnerable skin so you can keep going.

  • Our Pick: Wod & Done Rip Guards They come pre-cut with 2 or 3 finger holes, making them perfect for beginners or anyone protecting a healing rip.

3. The Recovery: Balms & Callus Care - Hand caredoesn't stop when you leave the gym.

  • Moisturize: Dry hands rip easily. Use a dedicated athlete’s hand balm (like the Wod & Done Hand Care Kit) to restore moisture without making your skin too soft.
  • Manage Calluses: Calluses are good, but only if they are smooth. If they get too thick or rough, they will catch on a bar and rip off. Use a Callus Remover, like this one, regularly to file them down - think of it as maintenance, not removal.

The Bottom Line - You can only go as far as your grip allows. By using protection when needed, managing your chalk, and caring foryour skin at home, you’ll spend less time healing and more time crushing the course.

Healthy hands = More training. Treat your grip like the gearit is.
